Rachael B signs publishing deal with The Unbound Press

We are beyond excited to announce that Rachael B has signed a deal with The Unbound Press to publish her first book, Sauce Will Thicken on Standing.

Rachael B is a freelance writer, poet and personal coach. She refers to herself as a ‘self-care activist and growth catalyst,’ to describe the work she does to facilitate personal and professional growth, offering a gentle, non-judgemental space for both.

Although she’s been writing for as long as she can remember, Rachael didn’t call herself a writer until someone paid her to do it. On a day-to-day basis, she writes for small businesses, freelancers and organisations doing good in the world. However, when it comes to writing, poetry is her first love. Her favourite quote on poetry comes from The General Theory of Love (Lewis, Amini and Lannon):

“Poetry, a bridge between the neocortical and limbic brains, is simultaneously improbable and powerful.”

Rachael feels this deeply. The words that flow through her help to make sense of her experiences, acting as a catalyst for personal growth. She hopes they may do the same for those who feel drawn to read them.

Rachael is already working on her second collection, for which she is turning her attention outwards, to share the journeys of many women (possibly you!), who have experienced emotional and/or physical abuse - empowering them, and those who read their stories, to re-write theirs, creating the bright future we all deserve.

About the Book

Sauce Will Thicken on Standing is a cauldron of soul soothing words that has been ‘thickening’ for just the right amount of time.

The poems in this collection were all birthed between 2001 and 2021 (with just a few exceptions). Rachael was first asked in the early 2000s, when she was doing the rounds on the London Spoken Word scene, whether she would be putting together a collection and although she said she would, it took her over 20 years to make this promise a reality. Rachael finally pulled together these poems, which span a period of 20 years, during lockdown in 2021. However, a combination of destabilising life events and imposter syndrome stopped her from putting her words out there… Until now.

It was only when Rachael began to talk about her second collection, which she felt would be more ‘worthy,’ that she realised these poems may also have their place in the world. That they represent an important part of her journey as a poet - from her period as a spoken word artist performing at events across London, to this, publishing her first full collection. This collection is a leap of faith - representing the ups and downs of the journey of life, it’s a physical manifestation of pushing past the doubts and fears we all have. By sharing parts of her journey, Rachael hopes to connect with, and inspire you, on yours.

The Unbound Press has tingles about the fact that this beautiful collection has something for everyone. It would be very hard not to relate to at least one of the poems in this collection and this is why we can’t wait for it to be shared with the world!

Sauce Will Thicken on Standing is available now for pre-order ahead of its publication date on May 12th here in the UK and here in the US, or anywhere you buy your books online.
